Who is more vulnerable than a poverty stricken six year old girl, raped repeatedly by her elders in the name of preparation? Such is the way of life for most girls of the Massai people of Tanzania. Their brothers are trained as small boys to become child warriors and are subjected to brutal beating rituals by the elders to test their courage and endurance. This is the pathway of life for these children. If a child from the Maasai culture is enrolled in a school then they cannot be sold off as a child bride or enter into the life of a child warrior. Consequently, their lives become drastically different and are given a chance of a better life where their basic needs are met on a regular basis.

Faces 4 Hope is desperately trying to work with local organizations, as well as government, to end these brutal practices, including female genital mutilation or female circumcision. Culturally, the mothers of these children are not treated much better. In many ways, their bodies are property of the local men. When they marry, they marry the entire age group and share sexual relations with those men and others who visit the tribe.

Faces 4 Hope is an on the ground nonprofit organization that is to serve this people group with both spiritual and physical needs in a holistic manner. After building relationships, Faces 4 Hope helps provide education and micro financing loans to help these Maasai be able to help themselves, and has been able to see life springing from those who are in a part of their educational system and micro-finance model. Children are beginning to gain an advantage in life and women are budding with a new found dignity and respect for themselves. Hope is given for a people who are starving for both the physical and spiritual water.
