This week I have been struck afresh as to the preciousness of communing with Jesus in His book. I don’t know how one lives without it but I know they don’t live as they should. Ian Murray writes below about our incomparable treasure. So don’t watch the movie. Read the Book and commune with the Living Word!
Christians Make Much of the Bible
It ought to be no secret why evangelicals make so much of the Bible. Why do we read it every day? It is because here (in the Word) Christ meets us, feeds us, and shows Himself to be the Author and Finisher of our faith. Those who do not have the Holy Spirit talk about “views of the Bible” as though it were all a matter of different theories. The idea of anyone laying down their life for Scripture is beyond their comprehension. They are puzzled that evangelicals make such a fuss about the Bible. They do not understand that real communion with God is by the ministry of the Spirit of truth, through the holy Scriptures.
All the joys and blessings of evangelical holiness are bound up with the truth of Scripture. If the Old Testament believer can say, ‘The law of thy mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver’ (Ps. 119:72), then how much more can we say that with all Scripture before us! The Bible means more to the life of a Christian than the very sun that sines in the sky. Amy Carmichael listed three things upon which the life and blessing of the Dohnavur Fellowship in India depended, and we are not surprised that she put first the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures.
