Stopping an Affair Before It Begins

I read this article on Tim Challies’ blog and it is something I hope all of our married couples will read and college students and youth as well. Owen’s words are powerfully important. God has been teaching us at Springs through the study of Galatians how important “DESIRES” are in sanctification. The Christian life exists in the context of a war between the DESIRES of the Spirit and the desires of the flesh. Ultimately the Spirit is fighting for the purity of our love relationship with Jesus. The purity of our marriage relationship and the purity of “pre-marriage” or “post-marriage relationships are essential pictures/parables of the single hearted devotion to Jesus the Spirit desires within us.

I have often encouraged my children and those I get the opportunity to counsel to “fight the battle as far away from the decisive point of winning and losing as possible”. To take the article’s point of view – fight at the first “E”.

Praying you will read the whole article here: http://www.challies.com/christian-living/stopping-an-affair-before-it-begins#keep-reading
and then I pray that all of us who are married will enjoy and experience the blessed communion and intimacy of dating and long face to face conversations, as well as the intimacy of marital communion with our spouses AND it will foreshadow for us the blessed intimacy and union we have with JESUS through His Spirit who has been sent into our hearts.
